Some things are best learned with a teacher beside you

You can learn a great deal from videos. But there are moments in hair work when nothing replaces having someone right next to you. The moment you are unsure how tight to work. The moment the weight of the hair does not sit quite right. The moment you need someone to take your hands and show you, rather than tell you.

My name is Ann-Marie Christell, and I have been a professional loctician for over 26 years. I love teaching online, and I love teaching in person. If you learn best side by side, my in-person synthetic dreadlock training is made for you.

Why learn synthetic dreadlocks in person

Synthetic dreadlocks and soft, curly mermaid hair are creative, colourful and temporary. Done well, they look natural, feel comfortable and protect the client's own hair underneath. Done poorly, they can be heavy, pull on the scalp and damage the hair when they come out.

So much of that difference lives in small details: the tension you use, how the weight is spread across the head, how the client feels in the chair. These are exactly the details that are easiest to correct in person, in the moment, before they become habits.

One-on-one, on live hair

This is not a large class. It is a one-on-one training, just the two of us, working together on live hair.

You watch me work, then you try, and I guide your hands as you go. I can see how you hold the hair, how you section, and how you move around your client, and help you adjust on the spot. Because it is one-on-one, the training is shaped entirely around your level and your goals, whether you are completely new to hair or already a loctician who wants to add a new specialty.

More than the technique

Learning in person also means we can talk about everything around the work. How to welcome a client and understand what they are picturing. How to look after your own body through a long day. How to bring synthetic dreadlocks and mermaid hair into your practice, and how to price them fairly.

As a breathwork and meditation teacher as well as a loctician, I also bring a calm, present way of working into everything I teach. Your clients will feel it in your hands.

Who the in-person training is for

The in-person training is for you if you:

  • Learn best by doing, with a teacher right beside you
  • Want personal correction in the moment rather than feedback afterwards
  • Are a loctician or hairstylist adding synthetic dreadlocks and mermaid hair to your services
  • Are new to hair and want to start with a strong, gentle foundation

If you prefer to learn at home at your own pace, I also teach synthetic dreadlocks and mermaid hair as an online course.
