Over the years, so many people have sat down in my chair after being told somewhere else that their hair could not be locked. Or that it could only be locked in one way, which was not the way they had been picturing for years.

My name is Ann-Marie Christell, and I have been a professional loctician for over 26 years. I never wanted to be someone who turned people away. So I spent years studying how every kind of hair behaves, from baby-fine hair to tight coils, and built a method that works on all of it. I call it the Seienstyle process.

Why Alabama

From Birmingham and Huntsville to Montgomery and the Gulf Coast around Mobile, Alabama is home to people with many different roots, stories and hair textures. Many of them have dreamed of their dreadlocks for a long time, and they deserve someone who will say yes to their hair exactly as it is.

When someone is told their hair is not right for something they want, it leaves a small wound. As locticians, we get to be the people who do not add to that. In a state like Alabama, being able to work confidently on every texture is not an extra skill. It is the foundation of a practice that welcomes everyone.

Learning side by side

The Professional Loctician In-Person Training is a two-day, one-on-one training. I travel to you, wherever you are in Alabama, and we work together on live hair models.

There are no crowded classrooms. It is just the two of us, so I can see your hands and guide you in the moment. Before we meet, you choose the services you most want to learn. The options include dreadlocks on natural hair, dreadlocks with extensions, maintenance, mermaid dreadlocks, synthetic dreadlocks and more. The training then follows your experience and goals, whether you are brand new to hair or already a stylist.

A gentle, clean method

The Seienstyle process uses no wax, no gel and no residue. Its small, controlled crochet technique is kind to your hands and your client's scalp. And because we work with the hair's natural ability to lock, dreadlocks begin to mature within two to three months, without the long awkward stage.

Alongside the technique, we talk about protecting your body through long days, being present with clients who open up to you, and building a practice you love. As a breathwork and meditation teacher, I weave that inner side of the work into everything I teach.
