Staying slow in a fast-growing city

When a city grows quickly, life tends to speed up with it. More people, more noise, more pressure to do more. For a loctician, that pressure can quietly push you toward squeezing in extra clients, skipping breaks and running on empty.

My name is Ann-Marie Christell, and I have been a professional loctician for over 26 years. I learned the hard way that the busiest version of a business is rarely the one that serves you or your clients best. Today I live and work slowly, by design, and my work is better for it.

Why Austin

Austin has long had a creative, independent spirit, full of music, art and people who like to do things their own way. From South Congress and East Austin to Zilker, Hyde Park and the growing suburbs, it is a city where self-expression is celebrated.

There are many people in Austin who have been dreaming of their dreadlocks for years. They want something natural and personal, made by someone who takes the time to do it well.

What our two days together look like

Before we meet, we have a one-on-one video call, so I understand your experience and your vision. You choose your focus from dreadlocks on natural hair, dreadlocks with extensions, maintenance, synthetic dreadlocks, mermaid dreadlocks for playing with curls and colour, and more.

Then I come to you in Austin, and we work side by side on live hair models for two days. Alongside the technique, we talk about how you want to work: the rhythm of your week, how much space you leave between clients, how you rest, and how to say no to the pace that does not serve you.

Frequently asked questions

Can I be creative with this method? Very. Every head of hair is different, and every set of dreadlocks is a one-of-a-kind piece of work. The Seienstyle process gives you the foundation to create freely.

What makes the method gentle? It uses no products, works on every hair texture, protects your hands with a small crochet motion, and is kind to your client's scalp.

How fast do dreadlocks mature? They begin to mature within two to three months, without the awkward stage.

What support continues afterwards? Coaching calls, the Seienstyle community, and lifetime access to The Professional Loctician Online Course.

So, is in-person loctician training in Austin right for you?

It may be, if you want to learn a creative, gentle craft and build a practice that stays calm, however fast the city around you moves.
