Loctician Training in Florida: Hands-On Dreadlock Training With the Seienstyle Process
Mar 05, 2023By Ann-Marie Christell, Seienstyle
Dreadlocks that feel like hair, even in the heat
One of the most common stories I hear from new clients goes something like this. They had dreadlocks made somewhere else, with wax or heavy products to hold them together. Then the warm, humid days came, and the products turned sticky and heavy, gathered dust and lint, and never quite washed out.
My name is Ann-Marie Christell. I have been a professional loctician for over 26 years, and I created the Seienstyle process partly so that no one would have to live with that. Dreadlocks made this way use no wax, no gel and no residue at all. They feel like hair, because they are just hair.
I think about this whenever I think of Florida. Sunshine, salt water, warm rain and long days outdoors. It is a place where people want dreadlocks that can live that life with them. If you live in Florida and feel drawn to becoming a loctician, I would love to tell you about my in-person training, and how we can do it together where you are.
Why Florida needs locticians who can work with every texture
Florida is home to people from all over the world. From Miami to Orlando, Tampa to Jacksonville, you will find families with roots in the Caribbean, Latin America, Africa, Europe and everywhere in between. That means every hair texture you can imagine walking through your door.
Many loc methods only really work on a narrow range of hair. I have met so many people who were told somewhere else that their hair could not be locked, or could only be locked in a way that did not suit what they were picturing. Each time, it is a small wound. Hair is so closely tied to who we are.
The Seienstyle process was built so that you never have to say that to anyone. Fine, straight hair, loose waves, tight coils, hair that has been chemically treated, hair that has refused to lock with every other method. You learn how to approach all of it. In a state as diverse as Florida, that is not a bonus. It is the heart of the work.
Two days, just the two of us
The Professional Loctician In-Person Training is a two-day, one-on-one experience. I travel to you, wherever you are in Florida, and we work side by side on live hair models.
There is no classroom of twenty students and no watching from the back of the room. You have my full attention for two whole days. I see your hands, your posture and your work, and I can guide you in the moment, before small habits become big ones.
Before we meet, you choose the services you most want to learn. You can choose from dreadlocks on natural hair, dreadlocks with extensions, dreadlock maintenance, mermaid dreadlocks, synthetic dreadlocks and several others. The whole training is then shaped around your experience and your goals, whether you have never held a crochet hook or have been doing hair for years.
What makes the Seienstyle process different
The Seienstyle process is the holistic system I have built over more than two decades. It rests on a few simple beliefs.
The work should be gentle on both bodies, yours and your client's. The crochet technique is small, controlled and kind to your hands, and your clients leave without a sore, tight scalp.
The hair should not need products to hold it together. The technique does the work, so there is nothing to hide behind and nothing to wash out later.
And we should work with the hair, not against it. When the hair is given the right conditions from the very first day, it begins to mature within two to three months, without the long awkward stage so many people think is unavoidable.
Holding space, not just holding hair
When a client sits in your chair for eight to twelve hours, something happens. They start to talk. Often they share things they have not told anyone. They are not only changing their hair. They are stepping into a version of themselves they have been picturing for years.
I am also a breathwork and meditation teacher, and this side of the work runs through everything I teach. We talk about being present, listening without trying to fix, and staying open without carrying every story home with you. My students often tell me that this is the part of the training that changed them most.
Building a practice that lasts
A beautiful technique is only part of a career. In the training, we also talk about the practical side. How to set up your workspace so your body stays well through long days. How to share your work on social media and photograph it beautifully. How to attract the clients you most want to work with. And how to charge what your work is truly worth.
You are not alone afterwards
Before we meet, we have a one-on-one video call, so I know you are ready for our two days together. Afterwards, you continue with coaching calls and become part of the Seienstyle community of locticians around the world.
The in-person training also includes lifetime access to The Professional Loctician Online Course. It becomes the library you come back to again and again, while the in-person training gives you the confidence of having done the work with your own hands.
So, is in-person loctician training in Florida right for you?
It may be, if you want to learn a clean, product-free method that works on every hair texture. If you want one-on-one guidance instead of a crowded class. If you care about protecting your body so you can do this work for decades. And if you feel that holding space for people is part of why you are drawn to this.
