You can start where you are

Many people put off becoming a loctician because they think they need a salon, a lease and a lot of equipment first. You do not. Many of the locticians I have trained began in a spare room at home, with a comfortable chair, a mannequin head to practise on and a small kit of good tools.

My name is Ann-Marie Christell, and I have been a professional loctician for over 26 years. Starting small and growing step by step is often the most sustainable path, because your practice can pay for its own growth.

Why Hamilton

Hamilton sits on the Waikato River, at the heart of one of New Zealand's greenest farming regions, with towns like Cambridge and Raglan nearby. It is a grounded, friendly place where people value honest work and relationships that last.

There are people in Hamilton and the Waikato who have been dreaming of their dreadlocks for years. A skilled local loctician, even one working from a calm home studio, can become a trusted part of the community.

What our two days together look like

Before we meet, we have a one-on-one video call to understand your experience and agree on your focus. You choose from dreadlocks on natural hair, dreadlocks with extensions, maintenance, mermaid dreadlocks, synthetic dreadlocks and more.

Then I come to you in Hamilton, and we work side by side on live hair models for two days. Because many students start from home, we also talk practically about setting up your workspace, choosing tools, keeping your posture healthy and keeping a clear line between work and home.

Frequently asked questions

What tools will I need to start? Less than you might think. A mannequin head, good crochet hooks, a comb, string, hair pins and some hair for extensions. My free tool guide lists the exact tools I use.

What makes the method different? It works on every hair texture, uses no products, is gentle on your hands and your client's scalp, and helps dreadlocks begin to mature within two to three months.

Will I have support as I grow? Yes. You continue with coaching calls, join the Seienstyle community, and keep lifetime access to The Professional Loctician Online Course.

So, is in-person loctician training in Hamilton right for you?

It may be, if you want to begin this work from where you are and grow a practice that fits your life.
