Loctician Training in Hawaii: Hands-On Dreadlock Training With the Seienstyle Process

The hair is the doorway

After more than 40,000 hours of working with clients, I can tell you one thing with complete certainty. This work is not really about hair.

My name is Ann-Marie Christell, and I have been a professional loctician for over 26 years. When someone sits in your chair for eight to twelve hours with your hands gently in their hair, something softens. They start to talk. They share things they have never told anyone. They are crossing a threshold in their life, and you are the person holding the door open for them.

I have worked in places like Bali, where this slower, more soulful way of being feels natural. Hawaii feels like that to me too. If you live there and feel drawn to becoming a loctician, I would love to tell you about my in-person training.

Why Hawaii

Hawaii is a place where nature is everywhere: ocean, volcanoes, rainforest and endless sky. From Honolulu on Oahu to Maui, Kauai and the Big Island, many people live slowly, close to the land and the water, and care deeply about what they put on their bodies.

That makes the Seienstyle process a beautiful fit. It is clean and product-free, so dreadlocks stay light and natural through salt water, sun and warm rain. And because it works on every hair texture, it welcomes the wonderful mix of people who call the islands home.

Two days together

The Professional Loctician In-Person Training is a two-day, one-on-one training. I travel to you in Hawaii, and we work side by side on live hair models.

You choose the services you most want to master before we meet. The options include dreadlocks on natural hair, dreadlocks with extensions, maintenance, mermaid dreadlocks, synthetic dreadlocks and more. Whether you are new to hair or already experienced, the training follows you.

Holding space with breath and presence

I am also a breathwork and meditation teacher, and the inner side of this work runs through my whole training. We practise being present for a whole day, listening without fixing, letting silence do its work, and staying open without absorbing what is not yours to carry.

At the same time, you learn a gentle crochet technique that protects your hands and your client's scalp, and a way of working with the hair's natural intelligence so dreadlocks begin to mature within two to three months.
