Loctician Training in Indiana: Hands-On Dreadlock Training With the Seienstyle Process
Apr 18, 2023By Ann-Marie Christell, Seienstyle
Bleeding hands are not a badge of honour
All over social media, I see locticians sharing photos of their bleeding fingers after a day of crocheting dreadlocks. Fingers wrapped in tape so they can keep going. It has almost become a sign that you are serious about the work.
My name is Ann-Marie Christell, and I have been a professional loctician for over 26 years. I used to have those hands too. I was taught a technique that made them bleed, and for years I thought that was simply part of the job. It was not. It was a sign of a poorly designed technique.
If you live in Indiana and want to become a loctician, I want you to learn a way of working that does not hurt you.
Why Indiana
Indiana sits in the heart of the Midwest, with cities like Indianapolis, Fort Wayne and Evansville and college towns like Bloomington and West Lafayette. It is a place of hard-working, grounded people, many of whom have dreamed of their dreadlocks for years without finding someone nearby they truly trust.
A well-trained loctician in Indiana can become that person, and build a practice that lasts.
How we work together
The Professional Loctician In-Person Training is a two-day, one-on-one training. I travel to you, wherever you are in Indiana, and we work side by side on live hair models.
Because it is just the two of us, I watch your hands, your posture and the way you move all day. I show you how to hold the hook so the effort spreads across your hand, how to keep your back straight, and how to position your client so your body stays well. You choose which services to focus on, from dreadlocks on natural hair and extensions to maintenance, mermaid dreadlocks, synthetic dreadlocks and more.
A method designed to protect you
In the Seienstyle process, the tools, the furniture and your posture are part of the technique. The crochet motion is small and controlled, so your hands feel tired after a long day, but not injured. The method is also gentle on your client's scalp, uses no products and works on every hair texture. Dreadlocks begin to mature within two to three months.
We also cover the inner side of the work, being present with clients who open up to you, and building a practice you can sustain.
Ongoing support
Before our two days together, we meet on a video call. Afterwards, you continue with coaching calls, join the Seienstyle community and keep lifetime access to The Professional Loctician Online Course.
So, is in-person loctician training in Indiana right for you?
It may be, if you want to learn this craft in a way that protects your body from the very first day, so you can still be doing it with joy many years from now.
