Loctician Training in Kansas: Hands-On Dreadlock Training With the Seienstyle Process
Apr 25, 2023By Ann-Marie Christell, Seienstyle
Can you stand for twelve hours and stay present?
This is a question I ask every future loctician. Can you, right now, stand on your feet for twelve hours and remain comfortable, alert and present for the person in your chair?
My name is Ann-Marie Christell, and I have been a professional loctician for over 26 years. Being a loctician is one of the most physically demanding jobs in the hair world. Long hours, the same fine movements again and again, arms raised, neck bent. If you do not have a method and a set-up that protect your body, it will eventually give out.
If you live in Kansas and feel drawn to this work, I want to help you start in a way your body can sustain.
Why Kansas
Kansas is a state of wide skies and open prairie, with cities like Wichita, Overland Park, Kansas City, Topeka and the college town of Lawrence. Many people there have been dreaming of dreadlocks for years without finding a loctician nearby who works in a gentle, natural way.
A skilled loctician in Kansas can become that trusted person, and build a practice that lasts for decades rather than a few years.
Two days, focused on you
The Professional Loctician In-Person Training is a two-day, one-on-one training. I travel to you, wherever you are in Kansas, and we work together on live hair models.
All day long, I can see how you stand, how you hold the hook and how you move around your client. I help you adjust in the moment, before small strains become lasting habits. You choose the services you want to learn, from dreadlocks on natural hair and extensions to maintenance, mermaid dreadlocks, synthetic dreadlocks and more.
Gentle on both bodies
In the Seienstyle process, the crochet motion is small and controlled, the hook is held to spread the effort across your hand, and your client's chair and your stool are chosen to keep your spine straight. The method is gentle on your client's scalp, uses no products, works on every hair texture, and helps dreadlocks begin to mature within two to three months.
We also talk about rest, rhythm and the inner side of the work, because your nervous system needs care just as much as your hands.
Ongoing support
Before our two days, we meet on a one-on-one video call. Afterwards, you continue with coaching calls, join the Seienstyle community and keep lifetime access to The Professional Loctician Online Course.
So, is in-person loctician training in Kansas right for you?
It may be, if you want to learn this craft in a way that respects your body, so you can still be doing it with joy many years from now.
