Your hands are the instrument

A violinist cares for their bow. A carpenter cares for their tools. As a loctician, your hands are your instrument, and how you treat them decides how long your career will last.

My name is Ann-Marie Christell, and I have been a professional loctician for over 26 years. The way I hold my crochet hook distributes the effort across my whole hand rather than one or two fingers. The motion is small, moving only as far as it needs to through the dreadlock and back. Repeated over tens of thousands of hours, those details are the difference between hands that work for thirty years and hands that develop strain injuries within five.

If you live in Michigan and want to become a loctician, I would love to teach you to work in a way that protects your hands.

Why Michigan

Michigan is surrounded by the Great Lakes, with cities like Detroit, Grand Rapids, Lansing and Ann Arbor, and forests, dunes and lakeshores stretching north. It is a state with a proud history of craft and making things by hand, and a strong creative community.

There are people in Michigan who have been dreaming of their dreadlocks for years. A loctician with skilled, healthy hands can serve them for decades.

Learning hands-on

The Professional Loctician In-Person Training is a two-day, one-on-one training. I travel to you, wherever you are in Michigan, and we work side by side on live hair models.

This is where I can really see your hands. How you hold the hook, how far you move, how much tension you use. Small corrections in the moment make a big difference over a career. Before we meet, you choose the services you want to focus on, from dreadlocks on natural hair and extensions to maintenance, mermaid dreadlocks, synthetic dreadlocks and more.

A gentle method for both bodies

The Seienstyle process is gentle on your hands and on your client's scalp. It uses no products, works on every hair texture, and helps dreadlocks begin to mature within two to three months. We also talk about posture, furniture and rest, about holding space for clients who open up to you, and about building a practice you can sustain.

Ongoing support

Before our two days, we meet on a one-on-one video call. Afterwards, you continue with coaching calls, join the Seienstyle community and keep lifetime access to The Professional Loctician Online Course.

So, is in-person loctician training in Michigan right for you?

It may be, if you want to learn this craft in a way that keeps your hands healthy and your work beautiful for many years.
