Why people open up in a loctician's chair

I have thought a lot about why clients tell me things they have not told anyone else. I think there are four reasons.

The first is touch. Most adults are touched far less than is healthy. When gentle hands are in their hair for hours, the nervous system softens and the defences come down.

The second is time. Almost no one gets eight to twelve uninterrupted hours with another person. Eventually the small talk runs out, and what is underneath has to come up.

The third is that you are a stranger, outside the architecture of their everyday life, which makes you safe.

And the fourth is that they are already in a moment of change. They opened the door themselves before they arrived. You just happen to be sitting on the other side of it.

Two days, side by side

The Professional Loctician In-Person Training is a two-day, one-on-one training. I travel to you, wherever you are in Missouri, and we work together on live hair models.

You choose the services you most want to learn. The options include dreadlocks on natural hair, dreadlocks with extensions, maintenance, mermaid dreadlocks, synthetic dreadlocks and more. Alongside the technique, we practise the inner skills: being present, listening without fixing, holding silence, and staying open without absorbing what is not yours.

The Seienstyle process

The method is inclusive across every hair texture, completely product-free, and gentle on your hands and your client's scalp. Dreadlocks begin to mature within two to three months.

As a breathwork and meditation teacher, I also share simple practices to help you stay grounded through long days and release what you have been holding when the appointment ends.
