The day I closed my open salon

For years, my salon in Stockholm was open to anyone. Clients brought partners, children and friends. People walked in and out, took photos without asking and watched me work as if I were an exhibition. I told myself I was being generous and easygoing.

The truth is that I was exhausted, irritated and slowly losing my love for the work.

The day I changed it, everything shifted. I moved to a private space with no sign outside. Only clients with appointments knew where to find me. I set hours that worked for my body. And the clients I most wanted to work with were the ones who immediately respected those choices.

My name is Ann-Marie Christell, and I have been a professional loctician for over 26 years. I share this story because the way you build your practice matters just as much as the dreadlocks you make. If you live in New Jersey and dream of becoming a loctician, I want to help you build both well from the start.

Why New Jersey

I have travelled to New York to do this work, and I know how much energy there is in that part of the world. New Jersey sits right beside it, with its own rich mix of cities, towns and shoreline. From Newark and Jersey City to Hoboken, Princeton and the shore towns, it is home to people from every background and every hair texture.

For a loctician, New Jersey offers something special. You can build a calm, private practice of your own, perhaps in your home or a small studio, while still being close to a huge number of people who have been dreaming of their dreadlocks for years. Many clients will happily travel a little further to find someone they trust, especially someone who works in a way that feels personal and unhurried.

A practice that fits who you are

There is no single right way to build a loctician practice. Some people thrive in a busy salon with many chairs. Others need a quiet studio where they see one client a day. Some love a home salon with no commute. Others build a traveling practice and see clients in different cities through the year.

In my training, we look at what suits your nature, your energy and the life you want to live. How many hours a day you can truly be present. What kind of space supports you. What boundaries will protect your nervous system. And how to charge what your work is actually worth, so you are not working twice as many hours to make a living.

The decisions you make in your first year shape what is possible in your tenth. I had to dismantle a busier, less aligned version of my business to build the slower one I have now. You can avoid some of that by starting with clarity.

The craft itself

All of this rests on solid technique. The Professional Loctician In-Person Training is a two-day, one-on-one training. I travel to you, wherever you are in New Jersey, and we work side by side on live hair models.

You learn the Seienstyle process, the holistic method I have built over more than two decades. It works on every hair texture, so you never need to turn a client away. It is clean and product-free, with no wax, no gel and no residue. Its gentle crochet technique protects your hands and your client's scalp. And it works with the hair's natural intelligence, so dreadlocks begin to mature within two to three months, without the long awkward stage.

Before we meet, you choose the services you most want to master. The options include dreadlocks on natural hair, dreadlocks with extensions, dreadlock maintenance, mermaid dreadlocks, synthetic dreadlocks and several others.

Marketing that feels like you

Many talented locticians struggle not with their technique, but with being found. In the training, we talk about how to position yourself as a specialist, share your work on social media, photograph your dreadlocks beautifully and attract the clients you most want to work with. Not through pressure or gimmicks, but by being clear about who you are and how you work.

Holding space for your clients

A dreadlock appointment can last eight to twelve hours. In that time, people open up. As a breathwork and meditation teacher, I also teach you how to be present with your clients, listen without fixing, and keep your own energy steady through a long day.

Support that continues

Before our two days together, we meet on a one-on-one video call. Afterwards, you continue with coaching calls and become part of the Seienstyle community of locticians around the world. You also receive lifetime access to The Professional Loctician Online Course, so the full method is always there to come back to.

So, is in-person loctician training in New Jersey right for you?

It may be, if you want to learn a gentle, product-free method that works on every hair texture. If you want one-on-one guidance from someone who has built, lost and rebuilt a practice over 26 years. And if you want to create a business that fits your life, rather than a life that has to fit your business.
