Move your client, not your spine

One of the first things I teach new students, and one of the things experienced locticians most often have to unlearn, is this. Your back should be straight. Your shoulders should be relaxed. Your head should not be tilted at an extreme angle for long stretches. And when you need a different angle, you move your client, not your spine.

My name is Ann-Marie Christell, and I have been a professional loctician for over 26 years. Most locticians who develop back pain, hand pain or burnout were not doing impossible work. They were simply taught only half of it. They learned what to do with their hands, but not how to do it for thirty years without hurting themselves.

If you live in Oklahoma and want to become a loctician, I want to teach you both halves.

Why Oklahoma

Oklahoma is a state of wide plains, red earth and rolling hills, with cities like Oklahoma City, Tulsa, Norman and Edmond, and strong communities across the state. It is home to people of many backgrounds and every hair texture.

There are people in Oklahoma who have been dreaming of their dreadlocks for years. A loctician who works gently and sustainably can serve them for decades, not just a few years.

Learning ergonomically from day one

The Professional Loctician In-Person Training is a two-day, one-on-one training. I travel to you, wherever you are in Oklahoma, and we work side by side on live hair models.

Throughout our two days, I watch how you stand, how you hold your arms, and how you position your client, and help you adjust in the moment. We talk about which client chair, which stool and what lighting will support your body. Before we meet, you choose the services you want to focus on, from dreadlocks on natural hair and extensions to maintenance, mermaid dreadlocks, synthetic dreadlocks and more.

The Seienstyle process

The method is gentle on both bodies: a small, controlled crochet motion for your hands, and no painful tension on your client's scalp. It uses no products, works on every hair texture, and helps dreadlocks begin to mature within two to three months.

We also talk about the inner side of the work, being present with clients through long appointments, and building a practice you can sustain.

Support afterwards

Before our two days, we meet on a one-on-one video call. Afterwards, you continue with coaching calls, join the Seienstyle community and keep lifetime access to The Professional Loctician Online Course.

So, is in-person loctician training in Oklahoma right for you?

It may be, if you want to learn this craft in a way that keeps your back, shoulders and hands well for the long haul.

If you would like to talk, email me at [email protected]. Tell me a little about yourself and where you are in Oklahoma, and we can set up a video call to see whether we are a good match.

With love,

Ann-Marie
