Loctician Training in Philadelphia: Hands-On Dreadlock Training With the Seienstyle Process
Aug 24, 2023By Ann-Marie Christell, Seienstyle
The oldest way to learn a craft
For most of human history, crafts were passed on by working beside someone who already knew them. You watched their hands. You tried, and they corrected you. You absorbed things that could never be fully put into words.
My name is Ann-Marie Christell, and I have been a professional loctician for over 26 years. I believe that is still the best way to learn this work. Videos and books can teach you a lot, but there is no substitute for having a teacher right beside you, seeing exactly what your hands are doing.
Why Philadelphia
Philadelphia is a city that honours craft and history, from its old brick streets to the murals that cover walls in neighbourhoods across the city. From Center City and West Philly to Germantown, Fishtown and South Philly, it is full of creativity, culture and people of every background.
There are so many people in Philadelphia who have been dreaming of their dreadlocks for years. They deserve a loctician who learned this craft properly, and who will treat their hair, and their dream, with care.
What our two days together look like
Before we meet, we have a one-on-one video call, so I know you have understood the foundations of the Seienstyle process and have had time to practise. You choose your focus from dreadlocks on natural hair, dreadlocks with extensions, maintenance, mermaid dreadlocks, synthetic dreadlocks and more.
Then I come to you in Philadelphia. For two days, we work side by side on live hair models. I demonstrate, you try, I adjust your hands, your tension and your posture, and we repeat until it begins to feel natural. By the end of the second day, you are leading and I am mostly watching.
Frequently asked questions
Is two days enough? Two days of focused, one-on-one work gives you a strong foundation. You keep building it afterwards through practice, coaching calls and the online course.
What will I be able to do afterwards? That depends on the services you choose and how much you practise. The training gives you the right technique and habits from the start, so you are not unlearning mistakes later.
Does it work on all hair types? Yes. The Seienstyle process is inclusive across every hair texture, completely product-free, and gentle on your hands and your client's scalp.
Will I be on my own after the training? No. You continue with coaching calls, join the Seienstyle community, and keep lifetime access to The Professional Loctician Online Course.
So, is in-person loctician training in Philadelphia right for you?
It may be, if you want to learn this craft the way crafts have always been passed on: hands-on, side by side, with someone who has done it for 26 years.
