From screens to hands

Many of the people who come to my training are not looking for a new job so much as a new way of living. They have spent years in front of screens, in meetings, in work that pays well but feels far away from who they are. Something in them wants to make things with their hands, and to be close to people.

My name is Ann-Marie Christell, and I have been a professional loctician for over 26 years. One student wrote to me that before she found this work, she felt stressed, unhappy and as though she was only working to get paid. Now she does something she loves every day. I have heard versions of that story many times.

Why San Jose

San Jose sits at the heart of Silicon Valley, surrounded by hills, orchards and some of the most fast-moving work culture in the world. It is home to people from every corner of the globe and every hair texture.

What our two days together look like

Before we meet, we have a one-on-one video call, so I understand your background and your goals. You choose from dreadlocks on natural hair, dreadlocks with extensions, maintenance, mermaid dreadlocks, synthetic dreadlocks and more.

Then I come to you in San Jose, and we work side by side on live hair models for two days. For many students coming from desk jobs, this is the first time their hands do all the work for a whole day. We pay close attention to posture, tools and rest, so your body adjusts well from the start.

Can I change careers into this? Yes. Many of my students came from completely different fields. What matters most is how much you want this and how willing you are to practise.

How do I learn the business side? We talk about positioning, sharing your work, pricing and boundaries, so you can build a practice that supports you.

What is the Seienstyle process? A holistic, product-free method that works on every hair texture, is gentle on your hands and your client's scalp, and helps dreadlocks begin to mature within two to three months.
