The conversation underneath the hair

Somewhere in the middle of a long appointment, the small talk runs out. That is often when the real conversation begins. A client starts talking about the job they want to leave, the relationship that ended, or the person they are finally ready to become.

My name is Ann-Marie Christell, and I have been a professional loctician for over 26 years. The hair is the doorway. What people walk through it to find is something much deeper. Learning to hold that moment, calmly and without trying to fix it, is just as important as learning the technique.

Why Wellington

Wellington is New Zealand's creative capital, a compact harbour city full of art, music, film and independent spirit, from Cuba Street and Te Aro to Newtown, Aro Valley and the hills around the bay.

There are many people in Wellington who have been dreaming of their dreadlocks for years. Many of them want more than a hairstyle. They want someone who will truly see them while they step into something new.

What our two days together look like

Before we meet, we have a one-on-one video call to understand your experience and agree on your focus. You choose from dreadlocks on natural hair, dreadlocks with extensions, maintenance, mermaid dreadlocks, synthetic dreadlocks and more.

Then I come to you in Wellington, and we work side by side on live hair models for two days. As a breathwork and meditation teacher, I also weave in the inner skills: being present, listening without fixing, holding silence, and returning to yourself between clients.

Frequently asked questions

Do I need to be a therapist to hold space? No. You need to be present and able to listen. These are skills, and they grow with practice.

What makes the Seienstyle process different? It works on every hair texture, uses no products, is gentle on your hands and your client's scalp, and helps dreadlocks begin to mature within two to three months.

How do I avoid taking clients' stories home? We practise simple grounding and breathing techniques that help you stay open without absorbing what is not yours.

What support continues afterwards? Coaching calls, the Seienstyle community, and lifetime access to The Professional Loctician Online Course.

So, is in-person loctician training in Wellington right for you?

It may be, if you want to learn a beautiful craft and the presence it asks for, with personal guidance.
