What Do You Learn on a 2-Day Loctician Course?

"Can you really learn to make dreadlocks in two days?" It is one of the questions I am asked most often, and it deserves an honest answer.

Two days won't make you a fully formed loctician. No course will. But two days side by side with an experienced teacher can give you the right foundation, correct habits before they set in, and show you how the work really feels with a real person in the chair. Confidence in your hands comes afterwards, through practice.

In this post I show you how my 2-day loctician course in the UK is built: before, during and after. If you are wondering whether this work is for you at all, start with the guide How to Become a Loctician and Dreadlock Artist in the UK.

Before the two days

The training doesn't start on the day we meet. It starts with a one-to-one video call.

Beforehand, you get access to the online course, where you find the instructions for the foundation technique. You get a basic toolkit and practise on your own, at your own pace. In the video call we go through what you have practised, so I know where you are and you know what to expect.

This matters a lot. When the foundation is in place before we meet, we can spend the two days on what really needs me standing beside you: real hair, real scalps and a real person in the chair.

Day 1: Your first hair model

We start at nine in the morning, and we work until the client is finished. Over the two days we work on two hair models together, and the first day is about settling into the work.

You stand at the chair, and I stand beside you. I watch your hands, how you stand and hold your body, and how you meet the person you are working with. Small adjustments at the start save you years of mistakes later.

But day 1 isn't only about technique. It is also the first time many people feel what it is like to be present for another person through a long appointment. How you stay focused as the hours pass. How you take breaks. How you listen when the client starts to talk. This is what separates a loctician from a technician, and it is best learned by doing it.

Day 2: Building on it

On the second day we build on what you learned the day before. You work more independently, and I step back a little. This is often when things start to click, when your hands remember what your head has understood.

Over the two days, you practise creating new dreadlocks, maintaining dreadlocks and extending dreadlocks, depending on what you have chosen to learn and what the hair models need. You go home with experience from two real people, two different heads and two different stories.

The services you can choose to learn

The training is one-to-one, so you choose what you most want to learn. You can choose from:

  • dreadlocks on natural hair
  • dreadlocks with extensions
  • dreadlock extensions with luxury ends
  • dreadlock maintenance
  • mermaid dreadlocks
  • mermaid braids
  • temporary, sewn-in partial dreadlocks
  • making and installing synthetic dreadlocks
  • curly synthetic dreadlocks
  • non-toxic, brushable hair extensions

How do you choose? Think about which clients you want to work with and what they will ask for. Many start with dreadlocks on natural hair and maintenance, because that is the foundation of most practices. Others already know they want to work with synthetic dreadlocks or mermaid dreadlocks. We talk about this on the video call, so the choice is right for you.

Photos and video: your content library

While you work, I take photos and video of you. You go home with a content library from the two days, ready to use on social media and on your website.

It might sound like a small thing, but it is often what gets you started quickly. People want to see your hands at work before they book, and now you have something to show them from day one.

A few practical things

  • Don't plan anything for the evening. We work until the clients are finished, and I don't want either of us to feel rushed.
  • Come on your own. Please don't bring children, partners, friends or pets. The two days need full focus, from both of us, and the hair models deserve a calm space.
  • I find the hair models. You don't need to find them yourself for the course.
  • I come to you. The training takes place in London, and we arrange the place and time together.

After the two days

The first weeks after a course are often the hardest. You are alone with your next hair model, and the questions come. That is why the training doesn't end when we say goodbye. You get:

  • 5 one-to-one video coaching calls with me
  • guidance in our private community, where you can ask questions and share your work
  • lifetime access to The Professional Loctician Online Course and 6 bonus courses, with all future updates
  • 2 days in the salon with me every year after the training

The path to certification

If you wish, you can become a certified loctician through Seienstyle. You complete two hair models and a practice head on your own after the course, and I review your work to make sure you have understood the method correctly.

What two days can't give you

I want to be honest here too. Two days can't replace the hours you need to put in yourself. Confidence in your hands comes through repetition, through hair model after hair model, and through making mistakes and learning from them.

What two days can give you is the right foundation and the fastest right path. You avoid years of piecing things together from many sources, and you avoid habits you would later have to unlearn. The rest you build yourself, with support from me and the community along the way.

Frequently asked questions

Do I need experience beforehand?

No. You don't need a hairdressing background. Many of the strongest locticians I have trained had never worked with hair before. What matters is that you enjoy working with your hands, that you are patient, and that you practise the foundation technique before we meet.

Where do I find hair models after the course?

We talk about this during the two days. You also get access to a Facebook group for hair models, and I help you through Seienstyle's social channels when you are looking for your first models.

Where does the course take place?

In London. If you live elsewhere in the UK, send me an email and we will find a solution together.

How much does it cost?

The training costs €4,599, and payment plans are available through Klarna.

Ready for the next step?

Two days isn't much time. But used well, side by side with a teacher who sees your hands, they can change the direction of your whole working life.

Do you have questions about the training, or are you wondering whether it fits where you are right now? Send me an email at [email protected]. I will answer honestly, even if I think the time is not right for you yet.
