Module 3:
Dreadlock maintenance
Dreadlock Maintenance is what keeps a loc journey alive. As the hair grows, the roots need separating, loose hair needs to be crocheted back in, and any sections that have grown together need gentle attention. With the Seienstyle process there are two approaches — one using a fine thread at the root for added stability, which works especially well for fine or slippery hair types, and one using a small amount of extension hair crocheted in for a softer, more natural look. Both are gentle on the scalp and designed to last. As a loctician, offering maintenance means building the kind of long-term client relationships that sustain a practice for years — some of my own clients have been coming back to me every few months for over fifteen years. Module 4:
Synthetic dreadlocks
Not everyone is ready to commit to permanent locs — and that's completely valid. Synthetic dreadlocks are a beautiful way for a client to try the feeling of having dreads, to experiment with length and colour, or to wear locs while their own hair grows. Made from high-quality synthetic fibre in carefully blended shades, they can look remarkably natural, and they last up to three months before being refreshed or reinstalled. As a loctician, this is a service that opens your door to an entirely different kind of client — one who isn't yet ready for real locs but is curious, drawn in, and often on their way there. It also adds a creative dimension to your work, since colour, texture, and style can be customised endlessly. The services you'll be able to offer include:

Locs with extensions on kinky hair

Creating locs with extensions on kinky hair opens the door to some of the most stunning transformations you'll ever be part of as a loctician — locs that feel completely native to the hair, that mature beautifully, and that carry a depth and texture no other hair type quite replicates. With the Seienstyle process, the technique adapts fully to the hair's natural pattern. The sectioning, the tension, the way the extension hair is woven in — all of it is calibrated to what kinky hair needs, so that the finished locs look and feel like they were always meant to be there. Module 6:
Dreadlock extenders

Module 7:
Micro locs
Micro locs are thinner than traditional dreadlocks, which means more movement, more styling possibilities, and a result that sits closer to how natural hair flows. Because each loc is created individually by hand, a full head takes longer than a standard installation — but the result is something quite different: softer, more delicate, endlessly versatile. With the Seienstyle process, micro locs are designed to begin maturing within two to three months rather than waiting through the long awkward stage that most methods produce.
There are three approaches, and which one is right depends entirely on the client in front of you.
For kinky hair, the technique works directly with the hair's natural coil and density. The sectioning is adapted to the texture, the crochet motion follows the hair's existing pattern, and the result is micro locs that feel completely native — as if the hair was always heading this way. This is one of the most rewarding installations to learn, because kinky hair has so much natural intelligence to work with.
For Caucasian hair, the approach shifts. Fine or smooth hair requires a different relationship between tension, backcombing, and the root tie — working with what the hair will naturally do rather than fighting what it won't. The Seienstyle process has specific techniques for this texture that allow micro locs to form cleanly and hold their shape from the very first day, without products and without the guesswork.
For clients who want to try micro locs without commitment, synthetic micro locs are braided directly into the hair. Module 8:
Partial dreadlocks

It's a style that can be worn in countless ways, and because every head of hair is different, no two partial installations ever look quite the same.
The beauty of this service as a loctician is its flexibility. Partial dreadlocks can be created on the client's own hair, on the own hair with real human hair extensions for added length or thickness, or as temporary synthetic locs braided in for a commitment-free experience. The approach depends entirely on what the client's hair can do and what they're imagining — which means the consultation and the creative conversation are just as much a part of the work as the technique itself.

Module 9:
Curly loose synthetic dreads or braids

Module 10:
Mermaid dreadlocks

The style begins as a traditional dreadlock at the root and transitions into loose, flowing curls or waves further down, creating a result that is part loc, part wild hair, entirely its own thing. The contrast between the structured root and the soft, free-moving ends is what gives mermaid dreadlocks their signature look — full of volume, texture, and life.
They can be made from high-quality synthetic hair in any colour or colour blend imaginable, and every set is created by hand to suit the individual client. Whether someone wants floor-length cascading curls or a shorter, boho-textured style, the design process is a genuinely creative conversation. You learn how to pre-make the dreadlocks, how to blend colors for depth and vibrancy, and how to install them using a gentle braiding method that does not damage the natural hair. Module 11:
Dreadlock extensions with luxurious ends

The technique is built on the same foundation as standard dreadlocks with extensions — real human hair carefully matched and blended to the client's own colour, woven strand by strand into the loc using the crochet method — but instead of the extension hair being fully dreaded to the tip, a portion of it is left loose, soft, and flowing. The result is a loc that has structure and maturity at the root and through the body, and then opens into something luminous and undone at the end. Rapunzel ends tend to be longer and more dramatic, luxury ends are full and silky, and wispy ends are lighter and more delicate — and all three can be customised to exactly what the client has been picturing.
